Christopher W. Closs joined the staff in July, 2009 as the Field Services Program Representative for Western & Southern Maine, a shared venture with Maine Preservation and in partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation. In the Greater Portland Area, Chris focuses on outreach to long-established statewide & city-wide preservation organizations and commissions engaged in planning, economic development, downtown revitalization, federal and state rehabilitation tax credits, revolving funds, preservation easements, grants and funding, advocacy, weatherization & sustainability.

Site visits, pre-assessment evaluations, technical advice and public testimony are offered to both start-up organizations, as well as owners/stewards of civic, institutional, commercial, and residential properties, where the complementary goals of preservation and community and economic development converge. Chris holds master’s degrees in historic preservation and natural resource planning from the University of Vermont and brings over 35 years of  consulting, development and teaching experience to the Field Services position. If you would like for Chris to visit your property and offer guidance, contact him directly at (207) 809-9103 for a Project Information application.
